 SUTRA (Society for Social Upliftment Through Rural Action) is a grassroots Social Action Group dedicated to empowering rural communities—especially women—through collective action, gender-just governance, and decentralized decision-making.

Since 1977, SUTRA has worked across Himachal Pradesh to address critical issues such as domestic violence, gender inequality, child marriage, and declining health and education standards. By mobilizing women’s groups and supporting local governance, we strive to create a society where every woman has voice, agency, and dignity.

We collaborate with local, national, and international partners, advocating for inclusive policies and sustainable rural transformation. SUTRA is registered under the Societies Act and authorized to receive foreign contributions.
